A HubSpot vs Freshsales decision taken from headline prices goes wrong in two opposite directions. In the first, a team buys HubSpot Sales Hub Starter for its calling tool, passes 500 minutes in the third week of a month, and learns that no Starter purchase restores calling before the first day of the next month. In the second, a team buys Freshsales Growth at $9 a user, licenses its finance and leadership readers at the same price as its sellers, and then finds that a second pipeline and a first sequence both require Pro at $39 for each licensed user. Both outcomes follow from terms on the vendors' own pages, and neither appears in a comparison of entry prices.
This article compares Freshsales with HubSpot Sales Hub, and the Freshworks suite with HubSpot where support enters the decision. It starts with the edition ladders, the free tiers and the capabilities that force each step up. It prices a sample team along its growth path, then treats telephony, where the two differ most, AI features and the support suite. It closes with a reference table, costs and returns, a procedure, symptoms, common questions and the limits of the evidence.
A plan in Freshsales and an edition in HubSpot are the licensed levels: Freshsales sells Free, Growth, Pro and Enterprise (Freshsales plan comparison), and HubSpot sells Sales Hub at Starter, Professional and Enterprise above its free tools (HubSpot product and services catalog). A seat is HubSpot's typed user licence, View-Only, Core, Sales, Service or Revenue, and its type decides which tools the holder reaches (HubSpot seats). Phone credits are Freshsales' prepaid cash balance, from which numbers and call charges are paid (Freshsales phone credits). Freddy AI is Freshworks' name for its AI features, and Breeze is HubSpot's.
Freshsales Plans and HubSpot Sales Hub Editions
Freshsales lists Growth at $9, Pro at $39 and Enterprise at $59 per user a month on annual billing (Freshsales pricing), and $11, $47 and $71 on monthly billing. Freshsales Suite carries the same prices with 500 marketing contacts included (Freshsales Suite pricing), and neither page lists an onboarding fee. Some support articles still file these products under the name Freshworks CRM.
The HubSpot catalog lists Sales Hub Starter at $20 a seat a month, Professional at $100 per Sales Seat with required onboarding of $1,500, and Enterprise at $150 per Sales Seat, billed annually, with onboarding of $3,500. Core Seats cost $20, $50 and $75 by tier. View-Only Seats are free and unlimited on paid tiers, and their holders view records and reports but cannot save reports or edit records. The Sales Hub pricing page shows Starter, sold there as the Starter Customer Platform, from $7 a seat beside a list price of $20, and Professional from $90 beside $100; its text does not state which term or offer produces the lower figures, so the arithmetic below uses the catalog.
The licensing basis differs more than the prices do. Freshsales' plan-change article describes one plan per account, billed by a count of users, and no Freshsales page read names a free read-only licence; HubSpot prices each user by the work that user does, so a reader costs nothing.
Free Plan Access in Freshsales and HubSpot
HubSpot's free tools are the default sign-up, free for up to two users. The catalog caps them at 1,000 contacts, 10 custom properties in total, one pipeline per object and 10 dashboards, with a record timeline limited to 30 days and Breeze Assistant included. Its free-tools table lists the Calling SDK for third-party providers but no HubSpot calling minutes, which HubSpot's calling documentation makes available from Starter. Free support is the knowledge base and community (HubSpot support), and upgrading to Starter removes the free seats.
Freshsales describes its free plan inconsistently. The pricing page shows three paid plans and a 21-day trial, after which an account without a plan "will be suspended", while the plan comparison lists Free at $0 for up to three users. The Free plan article gives the route: Admin Settings > Account Settings > Plans and Billing, then Change Plan, then Buy Plan under Free, which limits the account to three users.
Freshsales Free keeps the built-in phone, the chat widget, two-way email sync and 24x5 support by phone, chat and email, and drops workflows, forms, sequences and custom reports. The sources disagree on fields: the Free plan article allows five per module, and the field limits article lists zero of every type. No page consulted states a record cap for the plan.
A trial, a free plan offered at sign-up and a free plan reached by downgrading are separate things. HubSpot's is the second and Freshsales' the third, and no page read states whether a suspended trial can still move to Free. The wider field is compared in free CRM alternatives to HubSpot.
Feature Gates in HubSpot vs Freshsales
Set side by side, the two ladders unlock six of eleven decisive sales capabilities at the same rung. The diagram places all eleven, each read from the Freshsales plan comparison and the HubSpot catalog.
Sequences, custom reports and rule-based record assignment sit at the middle rung of both, and HubSpot's own step to it is set out in HubSpot Starter vs Professional. Freshsales Pro allows 10 sequences per user and 1,000 sequence emails per user a day (Freshsales sequence limits), with 10 pipelines and territory management. HubSpot Professional runs sequences for holders of a Sales or Service Seat, at 500 sends per user a day, beside forecasting, 100 custom reports and automatic lead rotation. At the top, Freshsales Enterprise allows 10 custom modules, and HubSpot Enterprise allows 10 custom object definitions and property access restriction, the mechanism behind HubSpot field-level permissions.
Five rows part. HubSpot Starter includes 15 pipelines across object types and 1,000 custom properties per object, where Freshsales Growth has one pipeline and 150 custom fields per module, rising to 250 on Pro and 630 on Enterprise. Freshsales puts the dialer, vendor phone support and purchasable minutes on every plan, where HubSpot begins calling at Starter and the other two at Professional.
A Freshsales downgrade from Pro to Growth dissolves every pipeline except the default one and moves their deals to its first stage (pipelines on downgrade).
Growth Path Cost of a Sample Sales Team
The figures below are sample data that describe no client. The sample team has six sellers who call and email, one manager who edits records and saves reports but places no calls, and three readers. The sellers bill 2,000 calling minutes a month, 1,800 outbound to numbers in the United States and 200 inbound on the browser to one local number, all recorded. Prices are Freshsales annual-billing list and HubSpot catalog list, read on 27 September 2026, and each row adds one requirement to those above it.
On Freshsales all ten users hold a licence, and calls cost the same on every plan at the published call rates: 1,800 × $0.022, plus 200 × $0.016, plus 2,000 × $0.0032 for recording, plus $1 for the number, or $50.20 a month. On HubSpot the readers hold free View-Only Seats, and on Professional each caller needs a Sales Seat.
| Requirement added | Freshsales, lowest plan that meets it | HubSpot Sales Hub, lowest edition that meets it |
|---|---|---|
| Requirement added1. Contacts, accounts and deals in one pipeline, with email | Freshsales, lowest plan that meets itGrowth: 10 × $9 × 12 = $1,080 | HubSpot Sales Hub, lowest edition that meets itStarter: 7 Core Seats × $20 × 12 = $1,680; 3 View-Only Seats free |
| Requirement added2. 2,000 calling minutes a month | Freshsales, lowest plan that meets itGrowth: ($90 + $50.20) × 12 = $1,682.40 | HubSpot Sales Hub, lowest edition that meets itProfessional: (6 × $100 + 1 × $50) × 12 + $1,500 = $9,300 |
| Requirement added3. Sequences for the six sellers | Freshsales, lowest plan that meets itPro: ($390 + $50.20) × 12 = $5,282.40 | HubSpot Sales Hub, lowest edition that meets itProfessional, unchanged: $9,300 |
| Requirement added4. One custom record type linked to accounts and deals | Freshsales, lowest plan that meets itEnterprise: ($590 + $50.20) × 12 = $7,682.40 | HubSpot Sales Hub, lowest edition that meets itEnterprise: (6 × $150 + 1 × $75) × 12 + $3,500 = $15,200 |
HubSpot costs 1.56 times Freshsales at row 1, then 5.53, 1.76 and 1.98 in year one; from the second year, without onboarding, rows 2 to 4 run at 4.64, 1.48 and 1.52. Row 2 carries the widest gap, since calling alone moves HubSpot to Professional and each caller from a $20 Core Seat to a $100 Sales Seat, while Freshsales Growth absorbs the minutes as metered charges.
Readers decide row 1. HubSpot Starter costs less than Freshsales Growth whenever $20 × editors is below $9 × (editors + readers), which holds once readers exceed 11 ÷ 9, or 1.22 times, the users who edit. The sample's seven editors reach that point at nine readers: $140 a month on HubSpot against $144 on Freshsales. At the pricing page's figures, row 1 would cost $588 a year on HubSpot and rows 2 and 3 $8,580, so a written quote decides which prices apply.
Telephony in HubSpot vs Freshsales: Metered Minutes and an Account Cap
The finding of this comparison is that the two vendors sell calling in opposite units. Freshsales sells the dialer on every plan and meters each minute from prepaid credit, and its pages document no monthly minute cap. HubSpot sells an account-wide allowance that steps with the edition, caps Starter at 500 minutes a month with no purchasable increase, and on Professional requires a Sales Seat of every caller, so minutes alone can set the HubSpot edition.
The Freshsales plan comparison lists the built-in phone, numbers and caller ID on every plan including Free; Growth adds recording, call queues and voicemail drop, Pro a power dialer, warm transfer and numbers from an external carrier. Under the phone-credit article, an account without credits can neither make nor receive calls, and each call is billed at the rates above, rounded up to the next minute.
HubSpot's catalog allows 500 calling minutes per account a month on Starter, 3,000 on Professional and 12,000 on Enterprise. Its Calling Minute Limit Increase adds 1,000 minutes for $50 a month and is sold only with Professional or Enterprise. Under HubSpot's calling documentation, a user who reaches the limit mid-call can finish it but can place no new call until the first of the next month, and calling from a registered phone uses twice the minutes, since it places two calls.
The seat step prices the gap. Moving one caller from a $20 Core Seat to a $100 Sales Seat costs $80 a month, which buys 3,636 outbound minutes to the United States at Freshsales' rate. At 2,000 minutes the six callers cost $600 a month on HubSpot Professional and $104.20 on Freshsales Growth, before onboarding. A HubSpot Starter account can instead connect a third-party provider through the Calling SDK, at charges outside this arithmetic.
Freddy AI and Breeze: Included Features and Metered Usage
Both vendors split AI between features included with an edition and usage that is metered, and only the metered part varies the invoice from month to month.
Freshsales includes no Freddy insights on Growth. Pro adds contact scoring, deal insights, next best action, duplicate matching and sales emails drafted by Freddy AI; Enterprise adds forecasting insights. The metered part is the Freddy AI Agent, which answers customers in chat or email at $49 per 100 sessions, a session covering one end user's interactions within 24 hours, and paid plans receive 500 sessions once (Freddy AI Agent sessions). The pricing page states that agent-facing AI features consume no sessions.
HubSpot includes Breeze Assistant in every product and plan, the free tools among them. The catalog gives Starter a predictive deal score, and Professional the score's factors, conversation intelligence and deal summaries in beta. Agents are metered in HubSpot Credits: 500 a month on Starter, 3,000 on Professional and 5,000 on Enterprise, with more at $0.010 each. The prospecting agent, available from Starter, uses 100 credits for each lead it recommends outreach for, so Starter's allowance covers five leads a month and Professional's thirty. The meters and current names are set out in HubSpot Breeze.
A Freshsales Pro team therefore pays extra only when a customer-facing agent runs, while a HubSpot team pays for agent work per action from the first paid rung and never pays for the assistant.
The Freshworks Suite, Freshdesk and HubSpot Service Tools
Freshworks sells support as a separate product: Freshdesk lists Growth at $19, Pro at $55 and Enterprise at $89 per agent a month on annual billing, with Freddy AI Copilot at $29 per agent on Pro and Enterprise (Freshdesk pricing). The accounts connect by integration. A Freshsales Suite app inside Freshdesk shows up to ten chosen fields and a customer's recent deals beside a ticket (Freshsales app for Freshdesk), and tickets reach Freshsales on a sync that runs every 12 hours by default and attaches them to contacts rather than accounts (Freshdesk ticket sync).
HubSpot keeps tickets as a CRM object in the same database as contacts and deals, from the free tools upward, each ticket associated directly with the records it concerns, so a complaint is on the sales record when it is created rather than at the next sync. The shared database is described under HubSpot Smart CRM.

Costs, Returns and the Conditions That Select Each Product
The firm writing this is a HubSpot Solutions Partner, paid to implement HubSpot, so the axes on which Freshsales wins come first, each resting on a linked vendor page.
Freshsales wins on five axes: an entry price of $9 a user against $20 a seat at list; a dialer, queues and recording in Growth with minutes metered and no documented cap, where HubSpot needs Professional and a Sales Seat per caller past 500 minutes; phone support on every plan; middle and top rungs at $39 and $59 with no onboarding fee, against $100 and $150 with $1,500 and $3,500; and Freddy sales insights included with Pro, unmetered. HubSpot wins on four: free readers, which reverse row 1 of the sample at nine readers; 15 pipelines and 1,000 fields per object on Starter; tickets in the same CRM as deals; and seats that follow work, so a Professional account pays $100 only for sellers, where a Freshsales plan change reprices every licensed user.
Freshsales' case is strongest for a team whose users all sell, whose calling runs to thousands of minutes a month, and whose data fits one pipeline on Growth or ten on Pro. It is weakest where readers outnumber editors, where several pipelines are needed on a small budget, and where tickets must sit on the sales record without delay. HubSpot's case is strongest where readers and non-callers are many, where pipelines or fields are needed in quantity from the start, and where support shares the database. It is weakest for a calling-heavy team below the Professional budget, since 500 minutes is the whole Starter allowance for the account. Neither vendor publishes outcome data, so the return on either is the value of the processes its gates admit, set against the cost differences above. Whether HubSpot fits at all is taken up in HubSpot alternatives.
Selection Procedure and Verification
- Count users in four groups: those who call, those who run sequences, those who edit records or save reports, and those who only read.
- Take three months of calling minutes from the current phone bill, split outbound from inbound, and note users who call from a desk phone, since HubSpot counts those minutes twice.
- Mark each requirement against the gate diagram: pipelines, fields per record, sequences, custom reports, custom record types, field-level permissions and a sandbox.
- Find the lowest rung on each ladder that clears every mark and the monthly minutes.
- Price twelve months: Freshsales as every user at that plan plus calls at each country's rate; HubSpot as each seat type at catalog rates, plus onboarding and minute increases.
- Run the hardest requirement in each vendor's trial or free edition, with one recorded test call.
- Verify before signing. In Freshsales, open Admin Settings > Account Settings > Plans and Billing, confirm the plan and user count, and confirm the phone-credit balance fell by the test call's charge. In HubSpot, open Settings > Account & Billing > Other Limits and confirm the calling minutes used against the limit (HubSpot account limits), then open Users & Teams, select the Seats tab, and confirm each caller holds the seat step 1 assigned.
Symptoms After Choosing Freshsales or HubSpot, and Their Causes
A HubSpot Starter team cannot place calls late in the month. The account has used its 500 shared minutes; new calls resume on the first of the next month, calls from a registered phone count twice, and an increase requires Professional.
After an upgrade to HubSpot Professional, some sellers can no longer call. They hold Core Seats, calling on Professional requires a Sales or Service Seat, and the repair raises each affected seat from $50 to $100 a month.
Freshsales calls fail and number purchases are refused. The phone-credit balance is exhausted, and auto-recharge, which adds $5 to $25 when the balance reaches $5, is off by default and unavailable during the trial (phone-credit recharge).
Freshdesk tickets are missing from a Freshsales account record. The integration syncs every 12 hours by default and attaches tickets to contacts rather than accounts, and Sync data now forces a pull.
The HubSpot prospecting agent stops recommending outreach. The month's credits are spent at 100 per lead, and an account that has bought no further credits pauses usage-based features until its reset date (HubSpot Credits).
Frequently Asked Questions
Is HubSpot vs Freshsales decided by price per user?
Only at the entry rung, and only once readers are counted. At list, Freshsales Growth costs $9 against $20 for Starter, but free View-Only Seats make Starter cheaper once readers exceed 1.22 times the editors.
Does Freshsales vs HubSpot change for a team that makes many calls?
Yes. Freshsales meters every minute from prepaid credit on any plan, while HubSpot Starter stops at 500 minutes per account a month, and more requires Professional with a Sales Seat for each caller.
Is the Freshsales free plan comparable with HubSpot's free tools?
In part. Freshsales Free allows three users with a dialer and phone support, while HubSpot's free tools allow two users with 1,000 contacts, forms and email marketing, and no calling minutes.
Which HubSpot vs Freshsales editions are comparable?
By their gates, Growth pairs with Starter, Pro with Professional and Enterprise with Enterprise, since sequences, custom reports, custom record types and field-level permissions unlock at matching rungs.
Evidence Limits, September 2026
Every price, limit and gate here is as documented in September 2026, read on 27 September 2026, and the vendors' pages are authoritative over this text. HubSpot's pricing page and the Freshworks call-rate table render in the browser, so both were also read through a rendering service. Several Freshsales support articles date from 2023 to 2025, and two conflict with the current plan comparison: the field allowance on Free, and a 2023 downgrade article that places sales forecasting on Enterprise where the comparison places it on Pro. The comparison is used where they conflict, and free incoming minutes documented for Freshcaller plans are excluded, since they are not tagged to Freshsales.
The evidence has three limits. The sample team is invented, and a real team's readers and minutes decide which row it reaches. The call rates are for the United States only. No source consulted measures outcomes, adoption or administration time, so nothing here shows that either product pays for itself; Freshsales Suite's marketing features are not assessed against Marketing Hub.
In Summary
Freshsales prices every user alike at $9, $39 or $59 a month on annual billing, with no onboarding fee. HubSpot prices seats by work at $20, $100 or $150 at catalog list, charges $1,500 or $3,500 to onboard the upper two editions, and licenses readers free. Freshsales Free admits three users after a downgrade; HubSpot's free tools admit two at sign-up.
The ladders gate sequences, custom reports, custom record types, field-level permissions and a sandbox at matching rungs, so much of the comparison is the price of each rung. They part on calling, where Freshsales meters minutes on every plan and HubSpot caps Starter at 500 per account, and on pipelines and fields, where HubSpot Starter leads. For the sample team, HubSpot costs between 1.56 and 5.53 times Freshsales in year one, peaking where calling alone forces Professional.
Two numbers settle the entry question before any demonstration: monthly calling minutes and the ratio of readers to editors. Above 500 minutes, a HubSpot quote starts at Professional with a Sales Seat per caller; above 1.22 readers per editor, Starter undercuts Growth on licences.
